Besides coffee, hot cocoa is one of my favorite hot drinks during the holidays. The twins love it and I enjoy having it on hand ready for guests during Christmas. What I’ve never loved is making it on the stovetop, making sure it doesn’t scorch, and feeling like I have to drink as much as I can while it’s hot. This year, I decided to create a mix that I could use with my Keurig so I didn’t have to worry about the hassle of cooking it on the stovetop.
With this recipe all you have to do is add hot water! I’m not a fan of hot cocoa made with water, but a big part of the recipe is powdered milk and it makes all the difference! My two biggest tips are to use dutch process cocoa and whole powdered milk, not nonfat. You can find whole powdered milk in the latin foods section of your grocery.
Below you can find the recipe along with a printable instruction card to keep by your Keurig or hot water dispenser when you have guests. This recipe will keep, in an airtight container, for up to six months so it would also make a great gift! Just put the contents into a mason jar, add the printable tag, and add in a bag of marshmallows and peppermint sticks to create a unique and fun gift!
