visual schedule cards for church

Our family goes to church three times per week. Worshipping our God and Savior is a priority for our family. We started bringing the twins to worship with us once they were three months old and have been ever since. Having children in worship service is a wonderful responsibility, but is also challenging.

When the twins were babies I kept a church bag full of “quiet” toys for them to enjoy, and always hoped it would help keep them occupied throughout the service. As they’ve gotten older I’ve made a cognizant effort to not only keep them busy, but to keep them engaged with the service. I don’t want them to just “be” there warming the seats, but I want them to know why we are doing the things we are doing.

One way I started to keep them more engaged with our services was using flip cards that followed the service of our worship. With the visual cues they were able to learn what we were doing, what was expected of them, and what would happen next. We’ve been using these flip cards off and on for over two years and the twins not only know the schedule of our services and what to expect, but they ask questions about each step of worship along the way. That’s huge! I like to view our worship service as not only worshipping our God, but it’s the perfect opportunity to teach the twins why we do the things we do and where, in the Bible, God commands us to do so.

Below you can download your own set of visual flip cards for your little ones! I realize churches do things differently and this exact copy may not work with your church’s form of worship. The beauty of this file is you can cut the boxes out and arrange them in any way you’d like. All you have to do is hole punch and put on a book ring in the order that works for you. I hope this file will help give your child structure during your worship service and allow questions to help them learn more about our great and powerful God!
